Cooking

ServSafe Food Sanitation Training (second spring class, first filled)

Learn all safe food handling & sanitation practices and prepare for the ServSafe certificate exam. This class will be slightly modified and participants will be required to do guided independent study.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays: 6/11 & 6/12, 6/18 & 6/19, plus exam Wed. 6/26 × 4 classes x 5-8pm, plus exam 6/26 x 5-7pm × Fee: $250 includes materials and exam, MVRHS rm. 501 & Library; Instructor: Alice Robinson

Recertification of ServSafe

Only textbook and exam are included.

This course is designed for anyone serving non-hazardous food in places such as the Farmer’s Market, street fairs, bed and breakfasts, etc.

Indian Cooking

Join us in learning how to cook Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian appetizers and snacks from different parts of India using all fresh ingredients without preservatives. 

Tuesdays: 3/26, 4/2, 4/9 × 3 classes x 6:30-8:30pm × Fee: $85, or $30 per class. Edgartown School; Instructor: Uma Datta

Materials: $10 directly to the instructor each class and bring a container for leftovers

The Art of Cake Decorating: An In-depth Workshop for all Levels of Experience

This class is a 5-day, hands-on, 2-hour workshop with expert instruction. Learn the secrets of frosting and decorating cakes and cupcakes. Learn & perfect borders, stars, shells, rosettes, basket-weave, frosting roses and leaves under the guidance of a professional.

Thursdays: 3/14, 3/21, 3/28, 4/4, 4/11 × 5 classes 6:30-8:30pm × Fee: $139, Edgartown School; Instructor: Enikö DeLisle

Info on Materials:

Students will need to purchase a cake kit, if they don’t already own the following tools*:

6” off-set metal spatula ($6)

Standard plastic spatula ($4)

A set of the 6 cake tips, nail, couplers ($12)

A cake spinner ($20)

A bucket of premade Wilton frosting ($16)

 *(Instructor has a limited supply of kits available, for those that do not wish to purchase their own kit.)

Students will provide their own cakes and cupcakes for the final projects for Class 5.

Kristina Hook-Leslie will share a recipe passed down from her ancestors as she prepares quahog chowder in the Wampanoag tradition.

Tuesday: 3/12 × 1 class × 6:30-8:30pm × Fee: $35, Edgartown School; Instructor: Kristina Hook-Leslie
