Global/ Local Volunteer Service Work Project: Brazil
Participate this spring in a 10-12 day affordable
learning vacation, facilitated by Laurence Binney, to the Brazilian states of
Minas Gerais and Bahia. Work with students in elementary schools and learn
about rural education in the towns of Mantenopolis and Cuparaque (Minas
Gerais), indigenous hometowns for many island Brazilians. Visit Salvador,
Bahia, the historical capital of Brazil, home to Afro-Brazilian culture and art.
Prepare for the trip by
taking the following optional ACE enrichment classes at a 20% discount for
participants: Portuguese I or II, Brazil seminar and Teaching for Global & Community Competency
Through Arts and Culture (also for
college credit)
Participants should be flexible travelers and
interested in working with children. They should be in good health, be prepared
to attend three orientations, and be willing to help plan and fund raise for
the trip. The first deposit of $500 must be made by January 24th.
This is a non-refundable payment excepting trip cancellation.
