Psychology
Introduction to the major concepts and principles underlying
human behavior and mental processes. Topics include personality theory,
development, learning and thought, brain and nervous system, sensation and
perception, motivation and emotion, stress and physical health, abnormal
psychology, psychotherapy, and social psychology. Prerequisite: ENL020 and
ENL050 or satisfactory basic skills assessment scores / 3 credits. Satisfies a

ECE Early Childhood Education 201: Curriculum
Planning for Young Children
This course explores curriculum planning for inclusive
preschool settings. Participants develop a framework for planning,
implementation, organization, and evaluation of activities in content areas
such as art, math, science, music, language arts, and free play. The course
emphasizes high-quality, developmentally appropriate practice, aligned with
state and national standards and guidelines. (6 hours observation/field work)
Prerequisite: ECE 100 and PSY 201 or satisfactory basic
skills assessment scores / 3 credits. Offered: Fall, Spring,
Three college credits through Cape Cod Community College
ENL101 is an
introductory college composition course required of all CCCC students and prerequisite
to all other college-level English courses. It is designed to help students
develop and express ideas clearly and effectively using standard American
English through frequent writing and the study of rhetorical patterns of
development. Students learn to write MLA style documented essays.
Three college credits through Cape Cod Community College
Teaching
for Global & Community Competency Through Arts and Culture
Learn practical and creative strategies to use arts
and culture to engage students in critical and creative thinking skills. Design
powerful arts learning experiences and lesson plans. Discuss
correlation with national standards and state frameworks. Lessons
will be shared in presentations, journal entries, and a final project.

One-Day University: Art, Culture, Sustainability - a Day of Exploration and Conversation
The focus will be on the impact and interface of the arts
and culture in community sustainability of energy, environment, and
agriculture,
health care, and education. The One-Day University will be the first of its
kind on Martha’s Vineyard. There will be workshops, roundtable and panel discussions
led by experts and leaders in the fields of focus. Many Island community groups
are working to organize the event. College credits for participation will be an
option.

This GED course is designed to prepare students

The teacher will provide a comfortable,
individualized learning environment that is supportive of different student
skills and needs. The underlying principle of the course is that we learn to read and write
by reading good literature and writing freely in an atmosphere that presumes that
making mistakes is an opportunity for growth. The class will also be
offered as part of college skills preparation.

Essential
Science
This class was created to support students taking the Test of Essential Academic Skills™(TEAS®) for Allied
Health careers and Nursing School Entrance exam.
These sessions will supplement the GED (math, English, reading, writing,
science and social studies) preparation course to cover the Science portion of
the exam, which includes high school level biology, chemistry, human
physiology, physical principles, and general science.
The course will explain the
process of recovery from mental illness. It will include coping strategies from
the symptoms of mental illness, and such life lessons as how to communicate
and/or to connect with others.

ServSafe
Food Sanitation Training
This course coverssafe food handling practices for food
service personnel and anyone responsible for enforcement of the food sanitation
code, including all information needed for ServSafe certificate exam from the
National Restaurant Association. The certificate meets state and local requirements
for a Person in Charge of a food establishment. Textbook, exam, integrated FDA
& State Food Codes and employee training materials are included.

Food Safety Sanitation Mini-Course
This course is
designed to satisfy the needs of anyone serving non-hazardous food in places
such as Farmer’s Market, street fairs, a Bed and Breakfast, or a residential
kitchen. Others may find it meets the Board of Health requirements for
single-event food service licenses.

Introduction to Internal Systems Therapy for
Healthcare Providers
The Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of psychotherapy
offers a clear, non-pathologizing, and empowering method of understanding human
problems, as well as an innovative and enriching philosophy of practice that
invites both therapist and client to enter into a transformational relationship
in which healing can occur. It can have an extraordinary, transformative effect
on the practitioner and clients.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy: DBT-informed workshop for
Healthcare Providers
This DBT-informed
introduction will focus on the 4 principal categories of skills:
mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation and distress
tolerance. It will also highlight a framework of balancing emotional change and
acceptance. A working knowledge of cognitive behavioral psychotherapy
techniques is assumed, but no prior experience with mindfulness-based therapies
is needed. Class size limited.
