*must meet requirements as a farmer and business must operate on Martha’s Vineyard. Please fill out application below. Pre-registration is required.

You have questions about your business: can I afford new equipment? Is this market profitable? Which crops earn the most profits for me? What will it take to support myself full-time farming? In other words, how can you work smarter, and not harder, to achieve your goals?

In this 4-session series, we will dig deep into farm finances so you know how to get the answers you need.

In the first week, we’ll discuss record keeping, including bookkeeping systems and an overview of QuickBooks.

With a good bookkeeping system, we can generate financial statements. In the second week, we’ll talk about how to read and interpret the income statement and balance sheet; and how to evaluate the profitability of different crops and sales channels.

In the third session will switch our focus to future planning and analyze investment opportunities (as in, can you afford a new tractor, or does it make sense to build a new farm stand?).

Finally, in week 4, we’ll create cash flow budgets that you can for annual planning and to apply for financing.

There will be plenty of time for Q&A, so bring your numbers and your questions.

We will meet online once a week for 2 hours each week. Sessions start Thursday October 29th at 4pm.
