A SIX-SESSION INTRODUCTION TO PUBLIC SPEAKING
Speechcraft is a workshop to develop your presentation skills. Through participation you will become a more confident and poised speaker. In Speechcraft, you will learn through practice and by studying the materials provided. The instructor will help you prepare for your short talks. You will gain confidence in all aspects of communication, including written and impromptu speeches, body language and listening.
The skills gained through Speechcraft will benefit you at home and at work. Every conversation at home will be more fun and productive. On the job, you will be able to communicate better with your employer, associates, subordinates and customers. Speechcraft will improve your performance in:
- Conducting and participating in business meetings
- Motivating people
- Interviewing for jobs
- Selling ideas or products
- Solving problems
Session activities and topics will include: evaluation of present speaking skills, selecting a speech topic, how to introduce a speaker, “ice breaker” speeches, how to organize a speech, “get to the point” speeches, gestures, “your body speaks” speeches, vocal variety, and more.
About the instructor
Cheryl Burns, President and V.P. Education of the former Martha’s Vineyard Toastmasters club, 2014-2019, was Secretary and Treasurer of Tick-Talk Toastmasters Club, Carlsbad, CA, 2005-2008, Parade Announcer at Oceanside, CA annual Independence Day Parade, and a featured speaker at the San Diego League of Practitioners, Crossroads Spiritual Center, F.O.R.C.E. Center for Spiritual Living. She has served as the Oak Bluffs Chair of the Finance and Advisory Committee, and was Public Service Announcer for Division of Family and Children’s Services at WWLP TV, Springfield, MA. She has an MBA from Western New England College and a BA from UMass Amherst.
